Bupleurum is a green filler with small yellow-green flower clusters on branching, airy stems. It sits between a flower and a foliage, which is what makes it useful: it fills gaps and adds movement without introducing another colour or reading as leaves.

Designers use it where eucalyptus would be too heavy and gypsophila too white. The lime-green tone lifts white and blush palettes, and gives a fresh, garden-gathered feel to arrangements that would otherwise look formal.

It is light, holds its shape well out of water, and lasts a good week to ten days in the vase. Strip any foliage below the waterline.
