Gerbera daisies are the flat, open-faced daisy in saturated colour — the flower most people picture when they think cheerful. A single large head on a straight, leafless stem gives clean lines and instant colour, which is why they carry birthday, get-well and celebration work so reliably.

They also read well from a distance, making them useful in event installations and retail displays where subtle flowers disappear.

Gerbera stems are hollow and prone to bending under the weight of the head. Use a tall, narrow vessel that supports the stem, keep water shallow and change it frequently, and cut stems straight rather than at a sharp angle. Handled that way they hold well over a week.
