Black tinted roses are the single most requested Halloween flower and the hardest to get right. There is no naturally black rose - the darkest natural varieties are deep burgundy - so every black rose on the market is coloured, and how it is coloured decides whether it survives the event.
Ours are absorption-tinted at our own Ecuadorian farms: cut stems stand in dye solution and draw it up through the stem into the petal tissue. Black is the tone that exposes sprayed and airbrushed finishes fastest, because surface pigment rubs off on hands, linen and costumes as soon as arrangements are handled. Absorption puts the colour inside the petal, so it does not transfer.
Used well beyond Halloween: gothic and rock-styled weddings, high-contrast modern design against white, and sympathy work where a deeper tone than burgundy is wanted.

Black Roses — Frequently Asked Questions
Are black roses real? Not naturally. No rose grows black — the darkest natural varieties are deep burgundy, such as Black Magic or Black Baccara, which read very dark red rather than black. Every genuinely black rose is coloured, and the method decides the quality.
How long do Black roses last? 15 to 17 days in the vase. Because the colour is drawn in rather than sprayed on, the flower is undamaged and drinks normally.
How many Black stems come in a bunch? 25 stems per bunch. Roses are sold by the stem and bunched in 25s, so a 100-stem box arrives as four bunches.
Will black roses stain hands, linens or costumes? Ours will not. Black is the tone that exposes sprayed and airbrushed finishes fastest, because dark surface pigment shows on everything it touches. We tint by absorption, so the black is inside the petal tissue and stays there through handling.
