Ruscus is the workhorse greenery of event floristry — straight stems lined with small, firm, glossy dark-green leaves. It is not decorative in its own right, and that is precisely its value: it provides a clean green base without competing for attention with the flowers.

Designers use it to line vessels, fill the back of large arrangements, build garlands, and provide the dark backdrop that makes pale flowers read clearly. It is also the standard green in hand-tied bouquets where eucalyptus would be too silver or too soft.

Ruscus is one of the most durable cut greens available: it holds its shape out of water through long setup days, tolerates heat, and lasts two to three weeks once conditioned.
